Students in Classrooms

This is a programme which offers a range of opportunities for students of Nottingham Trent University to work within the local community in local schools, academies and colleges. Within their work, they aim to raise pupil aspirations and attainment.

The support they provide is completed through a variety of schemes such as the Mentoring scheme or being a Student Ambassador.

Students in Classrooms Associates
Associates work alongside classroom teachers in:
  • Primary schools
  • Secondary schools
  • Colleges
The aim of the Associates scheme is to provide positive role models for pupils and help raise aspirations and attainment. Associate work with groups of learners or on a one-to-one basis, supporting pupils with subjects such as literacy or reading.

Associates may also get the opportunity to assist with some non-teaching aspects such as planning and preparing lessons.

Students in Classrooms Mentors
Mentors work on a one-to-one basis with students between the ages of 13-17 and provide advice and guidance on:
  • Routes into Higher Education
  • Revision and exam techniques
  • Planning and self-management skills
  • Motivation, self confidence and many more skills
Overall, the scheme aims to help increase attainment levels and raise aspirations of Higher Education. It is a great way to engage personally with pupils and work within a service that may change lives.
